What About Cynics Podcast #6 - Nintendo's Taking Their Money Back and The Strange Gesture By EA

A heavy dose of gaming here with us chatting about the new Shield handheld from Nvidia, an idea that makes less sense than the Steambox or Piston ever did to us. We also go into the driving force of all that is good and holy; sweet and delicious monies, and how this has led Nintendo to do some real crazy shit, and EA some strangely uncharacteristic nice things.

But in the end just try to have fun and if all else fails remember that although that picture inside the speech bubble is a low resolution picture, it is being displayed at 1080p, making it the highest resolution low resolution picture you'll see around. And wonders like that don't come every day.

    1. Glad you enjoyed it. He was good, but I still remember his shit cake attitude during Idiot Abroad 3. Still keeps me up at night.

    3. Don't know if you've seen idiot abroad. SHow where Karl Pilkington travels abroad and complains. Funny if you're a fan of his. Ricky Gervais, for the third season, sent his new pet project Warwick Davis along with Karl, and Warwick seemingly spent the whole time being a dick, trying to appear more intelligent, fun, cool headed and far more successful than he actually is, and in my opinion makes abit of a tit of himself.

Don't know the guy obviously, but he just comes across as if ironically life's too short's mild success has gone to his head. Either way I just find him annoying.

  2. I didn't have time to listen to all of this so apologies if you have already discussed it. What do you think of the xbox one?

    1. Fair enough, they are long and designed for the listener with literally shit all else to do. But no we haven't discussed it yet but probs will do.

Although I'm happy that it no longer has always online and doesn't seem to infringe on used games in theory, to be perfectly honest as a games console I don't really know anything about it because all they did was talk about television and sports and fantasy basketball. At no point did I see the xbox one demonstrated as a games machine with any more spread of genres than just guns and sports, which is the reason why I'm not an early adopter of Microsoft consoles, cause their exclusives seem to usually cater to that market.

I'm sure it'll be just as powerful, maybe more so than the ps4 and will do its job as a games console, and some of the features for watching television are nice. But the entire presentation was a shambles to me, and they didn't do anything to actually discuss its games and applications within that field. In all fairness to them I assume they're waiting for e3, but when you get so desperate for stuff to talk about in a mere 47 minute presentation that you announce a new halo tv show, it was a pretty piss poor reveal.

Sorry if that was long, that's only really my instant annoyed reaction, I'm sure I'll fine tune it. What did you think about it, and did the presentation make you excited to get one? Also did you find the presentation as terrible as I did, cause some people really seem to love it.

  3. I have a Nintendo soul but an open mind. Prefer to look at presentations comparing the consoles. Xbox is held up as the 'Holy Grail' but is the voice recognition control exclusive to them?

    1. Although the kinect is designed for voice recognition off the bat, the ps4 does also have a camera and microphone attachment as well. It basically just has a newer version of its playstation eye which can pick up sound. Also from what I've read (put sources at the bottom) they have taken on board a few people to develop voice recognition tech to patch into this. But it won't be as good as the xbox's I wouldn't have thought.

As far as the Wii U goes, I have no idea if the pad can pick up noise.

I don't want to sound like I'm shitting on innovation, but aside from channel changing I'm not really seeing how voice recognition, aside from maybe in a strategy games, will really change gaming that much, but I'm probably wrong.

Here's the ps4 hiring voice tech people link thing: http://crave.cnet.co.uk/gamesgear/ps4-to-get-voice-recognition-job-ad-suggests-50011253/

    2. I could hazard a guess that in the future all games will be played by voice rather than controllers, as will tv controls etc. You heard it here first.

      Thanks for your comments.

    3. That's fine, it's nice to have people who comment and chat on the site. Thanks for visiting.

I however just found out that the xbox one's controller still uses AA batteries. Seems however they try and innovate, they go and pull five other stupid moves to hold them back.

  4. Just checked out the top ten gaming blogs and you weren't one of them . So I read a couple and, not only are yours better but their 'commenters' are deadly dull with silly names.

    1. That's very kind of you to say. I guess in all fairness they're bigger and have to pump out more stuff to fill demand, so alot of it would be bollocks, but dammit I'd give up our trickling article production and small time success for the big league in a heartbeat. Glad you like the site anyway.
You're right about our commenters' names though. I think they all might be more interesting because everyone's anonymous and so feel they can say alot more shit without any repercussions. But the continuing anonymous name tag is starting to make us seem like a cult.

    2. You'd give it up 'in a heartbeat' for 'big league success'. Where is your loyalty, young man? What about friendly banter, loyal fans, the lure of gentle internet laughter.....I'm shocked!

    5. Although I'll happily continue creating content for a niche audience because it's the only thing I like to do in the world. That and the fact that I don't think the adverts we seem to be hosting really fit with who visits the site e.g Muslima.com - the UK's best muslim dating website.

    6. Niche, I rather like the sound of that. Like a sort of designer site for people with bugger all to do except hunt for a muslim bride while wondering what a tribble is.

    7. I'll be posting my suicide note on the website before long if you put it that way.
